What to Expect

Your CBT Day, Step by Step

01

Introduction & Eyesight Check

Your day begins with a welcome briefing covering what to expect, legal requirements, and a mandatory eyesight check. Your instructor will go through the DL196 certificate process and answer any initial questions.

02

Motorcycle Controls & Safety Checks

You will be shown how to carry out basic safety checks on your motorcycle — tyres, brakes, lights, and fluid levels. Your instructor will walk you through all the controls: throttle, clutch, brakes, gears, and indicators.

03

On-Site Riding Exercises

Before heading onto public roads, you will practise riding in a safe, controlled off-road environment. Exercises include slow-speed balance, figure-of-eight, emergency stops, and U-turns until your instructor is satisfied you are ready.

04

Highway Code & Rider Theory

A short classroom session covers the Highway Code as it applies to motorcyclists, road signs, hazard awareness, and safe riding principles. This prepares you for the on-road element of the day.

05

On-Road Riding (Minimum 2 Hours)

The final element is a minimum two-hour accompanied ride on real public roads. Your instructor rides alongside you via radio communication, guiding you through junctions, roundabouts, and various road types in and around Bristol.
